Here we go...

I am hopping on board the blogging bandwagon, albeit with slight reluctance.  I've never been one for technology, but blogging is a great way to network, learn, and share information.

My goals for this blog are simple:
-provide nutrition education
-incite culinary creativity
-share useful websites I've encountered

My efforts are not entirely self-less.  By no means have I mastered my own health & wellness.  I am hoping that by being honest with readers, I will be honest with myself as well.  You may very well find a recipe for a chocolate chip cookie on here.  For me, that is real life- however I want to emphasize the truthful (and boring) message that everything is okay in moderation.

With that said, my goal for the first month of this blog is to write down everything I eat during the day.  I work at a medical clinic and I frequently assign a food journal for my patients.  I should try one myself- I will start with yesterday's intake.  Here goes...

Breakfast:
-1/2 banana, 4 oz orange juice (pre-run)
-1 cup bran flakes mixed with 1/3 cup "blueberry muffin" cereal (Roundy's generic) + 1 cup light soymilk
-2 Tablespoons Skippy Natural super chunk honey nut peanut butter
-1/2 ounce dark chocolate

Lunch:
-Lean Cuisine mashed potatoes and meatloaf entree (ehhhh I was out of bread, so my intentions of making myself a sandwich fell flat)
-1 peach

Snack:
-1 blueberry Greek yogurt muffin top (from Costco).  Delicious!  But watch out- 1 muffin top = 2 servings
-1 cup watermelon

Dinner:
-3 cups air-popped popcorn with "sour cream & onion" seasoning (what would I do without my Orville Redenbacher air popper?!)
-1 cup dark chocolate almond milk + 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder

Eeek!  What happened to the vegetables?  I had brought some pea pods to have for lunch, but didn't get around to eating them.  I definitely have a tendency to eat too much fruit and neglect my veggies.  What did YOU eat today?  Are you pleased with your choices?  Any room for improvement?
